How to: Wear your Summer Dresses During Fall

ootd-11132014-1

Airy summer dresses add interest to fall outfits when contrasted with dark or neutral colors. Try pairing yours with a leather jacket and a pashmina (bonus if it’s tied like a tie!) or wear a long-sleeved knit top underneath a sleeveless floral print dress with a light knit scarf. Add another layer to color-blocked dresses with a dark-colored blazer.

Also, a big happy 25th birthday to my little sister, Kindre! Love you kiddo!

How to: Wear Floral Tops in Fall

ootd-10302014-1
Floral print shirts in light fabrics and tees in bold hues are summer wardrobe staples. You can wear them during autumn by pairing them with more subtle colors and cool-weather textures. Layer your flowery shirts and bright tees under a brown, black or gray pullover, a buttoned-up cardigan or underneath a leather jacket.

Business Casual Maxi Dress

ootd-10162014-1

I really love maxi dresses. They’re like wearing pajamas, but better. They’re perfect for lots of occasions, but I struggle with wearing this particular dress to work. It’s pretty casual, so over the next few months I’m going to try remixing it with dressier pieces to make it business casual appropriate. Fortunately I work in an environment where “business casual” is sometimes more casual than business, but I still try to look dressy…ish. Without further ado, here’s my first attempt.

What to Wear: Casual Fall Wedding

ootd-10072014-1

I am obsessed with this dress. It goes kind of perfectly with my new pashmina, which I am also obsessed with. I got this dress over the summer from Nordstrom Rack (FOR $20 DOLLARS!!!). I planned to wear it to a friend’s wedding, but it is a little more casual than that particular occasion called for.

However, this is definitely something I would wear to a casual fall wedding.

You guys. This is my first ever pashmina. And I am obsessed. The print is so fun and it really does keep you warm when it’s cool outside. In fact, this morning, I totally snuggled up on metro with this baby.

Tribal and Mint

ootd-09082014-1

I fell in love with this dress the first time I saw it in Target. I wrote about that the last time I wore it (remix link below).

What I didn’t write about is the challenge of owing a dress like this. Yes, it’s cute. Yes, the pattern pops. And, yes, it’s generally pretty darn awesome. However, because the pattern is so striking and recognizable, I have found it can be difficult to remix without looking like I’m wearing the same thing over and over. Fortunately this dress has a ton of color and I can pull a bunch of different things to wear it with from my current wardrobe. As you can see, the dress looks decidedly summery here, but by pairing it with all back and boots, I made it work for winter (again, below).

Do you have any pieces that are very recognizable and difficult to remix? I’d love to read your tips for remixing these statement pieces.

What are you doing?

Today while I was taking photos, a landscaper dude stopped and asked me if I was taking pictures. Yup, I replied. He gave me a curious look and asked me what I was taking photos of.  I wish I had the camera pointed at him to capture the look he gave me when I told him I was taking photos of my clothes. For a blog.

Dressed Up PJs

I purchased this dress because it was on sale and have been looking for a long, gray maxi for a while. Ever since I saw this pin. I have been toying with the idea of turning this baby into a short-sleeved dress because the current sleeve situation is sort of weird. I think it may actually be a little more versatile with shorter sleeves…what do you think?

Long and Flowy Maxi

ootd-08192014-1

This was the first maxi dress I ever purchased. Before this one, I always struggled with maxi-anything because I could never find them in long enough lengths. Fortunately, Old Navy makes tall sizes and when I saw this baby online in my size (a couple years ago!) I scooped it up immediately. The length is perfect and so is the pretty, light fabric. We all know how I feel about ruffles and as far as I’m concerned, they’re an added bonus on this dress!
