This was the first maxi dress I ever purchased. Before this one, I always struggled with maxi-anything because I could never find them in long enough lengths. Fortunately, Old Navy makes tall sizes and when I saw this baby online in my size (a couple years ago!) I scooped it up immediately. The length is perfect and so is the pretty, light fabric. We all know how I feel about ruffles and as far as I’m concerned, they’re an added bonus on this dress!

There is nothing
more comfortable better than flowy fabrics in the summer. I made this skirt years ago (using this tutorial) out of this stretchy, floral fabric I found at Jo-Ann’s. I made a similar one of my sister, too, though I’m not sure she has it anymore. And if you’re wondering, yes it has pockets.

I went thrifting with a friend last month and as soon as I saw this skirt, I had to have it. I am completely obsessed with anything black and white recently (check my closet if you don’t believe me) and I could think of several different ways to wear it off the top of my head. Unfortunately, I do have to iron it to keep the pleats looking fresh, but I think it’s worth it.
I am so excited to remix this little beauty.

Remember the last time I wore this skirt? The outfit made me feel like a housewife. I don’t generally think looking like a housewife is a good thing, but I’ve gotta give a nod to this skirt’s versatility. I love that
without one particular necklace with the addition of some darker/jewel-toned pieces, this skirt transforms into something really rocker-esque. Soft rocker, obviously. I mean, it’s ruffly. But still more hardXcore than housewife, amirite?

I recently decided that I need more pencil skirts in my life. I got this one (and this blue one) a while ago from Old Navy and I love that they’re more than just your run-of-the-mill black pencil skirt. Now, there is nothing wrong with a black pencil skirt. In fact, I love the one I have, but these are just so bright and fun. These skirts have inspired me to scour the web in search of more. We’re just over a month from the official first day of fall and I’m feeling burgandy, grey and forest green for the upcoming seasons. What are you on the hunt for for autumn?

You know those days when you get up in the morning and stand in your closet for 10 minutes AKA 1/3 of your allotted “get ready for work” time and still have no idea what to wear? This outfit is pretty much my go-to fashion recipe for those mornings.
Fitted bottom + ruffly/sheer/flowy top = almost always a winner in my book
The belt and locket are just bonus snazziness. Do you have a default outfit when you’re out of inspiration and need to get your butt moving? I’d love to hear it!

I started the #100happydays challenge last week. The object is to take a photo of something that makes you happy every day for 100 days and post it on social media with the hashtag above. In doing this, you supposedly begin to focus on things that make you happy, rather than the stuff that doesn’t.
I have a lot to be happy about in my life. I’ve got a great job, an awesome hubby, a supportive and close-knit family and two really cute dogs. In general, I’d say that I’m a pretty optimistic person, but I still love the challenge of finding something in every day that makes me smile.
What do you think? Are you up for the challenge?

Let me just get this out in the open: I love purple. I have been obsessed with it for as long as I can remember. My sisters will tell you that I went through a major denial period. But you know what they say about sisters, right? They lie. I had purple sheets on my bed as a kid and I even had my bridesmaids wear purple for my wedding.
I made this skirt back when I first created my blog and wore it for the first time, here. Four years later, it still fits (yay for elastic waistbands!) and I’m still wearing it with ruffles.

BONUS: I saw a girl with her hair like this the other day and totally copied it. How pretty is this?? It was a cinch to recreate–only 3 steps!
- French braid your hair to the nape of your neck and secure with a hair tie
- Depending on how big you want your bun, tease up the ponytail and spray it with some hair spray or dry shampoo
- Twist into a bun and secure with spin pins!
I’ll definitely be doing this style again, especially with the hot, humid summers we get here in DC.
I wore this outfit to brunch earlier this month. As the weather heats up, this skirt is quickly becoming a go-to for me. I got it as a gift from my sister years ago for Christmas. I was a little wary of it at first because it’s very thin. However, the thinness is what makes me love it. It basically feels like I’m not wearing anything which is key when it’s hot and humid.
