Dressed Up PJs

ootd-08212014-5

I purchased this dress because it was on sale and have been looking for a long, gray maxi for a while. Ever since I saw this pin. I have been toying with the idea of turning this baby into a short-sleeved dress because the current sleeve situation is sort of weird. I think it may actually be a little more versatile with shorter sleeves…what do you think?

Casual Friday

ootd-08062014-1

Happy Friday everyone! I work from home a couple days a week, so I actually get to have more than just casual Fridays. Most of the time those teleworking days are really casual. As in, I don’t get dressed. All day. I actually decided to get dressed today. I couldn’t be bothered to put on even a stitch of makeup, but at least I changed out of my PJs. One step at a time.

Accessorize

ootd-08042014-1

I’ve never been big on accessorizing and the reason is multifaceted. I think part of it is my aesthetic–I gravitate toward simplicity–and another (arguably larger part) is that I have no idea what I’m doing when it comes to adding flare to my wardrobe.

But there is just something about a pretty necklace that really completes an ensemble, particularly when it’s a simple one like today’s outfit. I went shopping recently to find a necklace to wear to my friend’s upcoming wedding and when I saw this beauty in Target, I had to buy it. This isn’t the one I’m planning to wear to the wedding, but it’s just so geometric and cool! The checkout girl was coveting it so hard, I thought she might try to nab it. Can’t say I blame her.

Colorful

ootd-07172014-4

You may or may not have seen my inspiration for this outfit when I pinned it a couple weeks ago. I was really excited that I had all the pieces to put it together. It is such a fun, colorful and (arguably most importantly) comfy ensemble.

And my shoes. Let’s talk about the greatest flats in the history of flats. These adorable New Balance for Nine West flats are one of my all-time favorite pairs of shoes. I was on the metro several years ago and saw a girl wearing them. The second I got home, I looked them up and ordered my own pair. Sadly, they don’t exist anymore. I have searched high and low and have come up empty-handed again and again. I’ve basically worn these into the ground and about a year ago I thought, “Yeah, I should really get rid of these shoes.” But I couldn’t do it. So I threw them in the trunk of my car so they could be my in-case-I’m-wearing-heels-and-get-a-flat-tire-or-my-car-breaks-down-and-I-need-to-walk-several-miles flats. You have a pair of those, right? Needless to say, I pulled them out, dusted them off and put them on with this outfit because I just felt like they fit with the cool, comfy vibe.

Dotty-Dot-Dot

ootd-graydotscoral-full

I know what you’re thinking: more dots? More sheer dots? And the answer is: yes, more dots. I love polka dots. Almost as much as I love stripes and ruffles. There’s just something so fun and summery about them, amirite? The fact that this top combines not only one, but two of my favorite fashion elements makes it a winner in my book! What do you think? Any favorite prints, patterns or fabrics?

Floral and Gray

This skirt is really fun. I was very excited when I found it in a thrift store a few years back. I was looking for a gray a-line when I came across this on the rack. I guess this one would be considered fit and flare are is not something I would typically buy, but it was so close to what I was looking for (and so cheap!), I went ahead and grabbed it.

Pretty in Blue

This is a perfect summer dress. I realize it’s not quite summer yet, but we were having some really nice weather and I got excited. Skater dresses seem to really work for my shape and I love how comfortable and flattering it is.

Black and White and Dots All Over

Let’s talk about that little black band I wear on my wrist in all my photos: it’s a Fitbit Flex! You set up an account (here’s my public profile) and the band tracks your activity, food and sleep patterns. I’ve had it since February (hubby and I bought them as Valentine’s gifts for ourselves) and I absolutely love it! I walk a lot with my dogs, and this little band keeps me motivated to get my 10,000 steps–usually more!–per day! What do you do to stay healthy and motivated?

April Showers

ootd-peterpantop-kneesupback

I took these photos between the raindrops one gloomy day earlier this month. It rained all day and was kind of miserable. Fortunately it paused for about 10 minutes when I got home from work. Guess that means the blogging gods were on my side. This will probably be the last time I wear this blazer for a few months. Tweed doesn’t exactly go with May flowers, does it?

Gray Day

DSC_0019

As someone who loves winter, this time of year is bittersweet for me.  I like the holiday season, I like the cold temperatures and hot fires in the fireplace. I love snuggling up on the sofa with my Nook and a steaming cup of hot cocoa. But most of all, and (don’t tell my husband this) I LOVE SNOW. I love how the air feels magical when the first flakes of snow slowly make their way down toward Earth. The way the sun sparkles and dances across fields of snow makes my heart swell.

But, I’m looking forward to warm evening strolls and for the sun to shine well into the evening hours. So, it is with just a tiny twinge of sadness that I say goodbye to winter and HELL-O spring.
