Fun & Flirty

I wore this outfit last month right as the season started to change. I’ve got to tell you: I was pretty excited to pull out this pretty tweed blazer again this year. This is also my first time wearing this new skirt. I saw it in TJ Maxx and though, “nope, I definitely don’t need another black skirt” but I tried it on and fell in love with it. I figured I could part with one of my others in favor of this more flattering circle skirt. And let’s be honest: who doesn’t need a new black skirt. They’re so versatile, amirite?

Check and Mate: My Favorite Transitional Piece of Clothing

ootd-09182014-2

I bought these crops at the end of last winter and I must say: cropped pants are probably one of my favorite transitional pieces.

Being a relatively tall girl, I never in a million years thought I’d think those words, let alone write them. You’d think the ongoing trauma of trying to find pants that are actually long enough would turn me off from anything cropped, but frankly I’m thankful they’re in style.

The great thing about cropped pants is that they look great for work and they keep you comfortable during chilly morning walks to the office. I have these awesomely versatile navy ones and another with a really fun print. If you’re in the market, I definitely suggest buying a pair (or two).

Pattern Mixing 101

I saw a palm reader at the beginning of the month. This isn’t something I paid for, but there was one at the bridal shower I went to earlier this month (see? another reason it was so cool). I was nervous to have to done because I didn’t want to be told something that would stress me out, but after watching a few other people have their palms read, I decided to go for it.

Now that I’ve done it and had some time to digest everything, I think what makes a good palm reader is someone who is great at BSing and getting you to unintentionally feed them information. For instance, the Palmist asked if I played an instrument when I was younger. I told her I played flute for 1/2 a year when I was in 4th grade and it was required. She told me I should get back to that, which made me laugh because  I wasn’t good at it and I certainly wasn’t passionate about it. I enjoy music, but it’s not something I’m extremely interested in and it’s certainly not a huge part of my life. A little background: I went to school to be a graphic designer, but don’t do a whole lot of art in my 9-to-5, so I took what she said and reinterpreted it to try to incorporate more creativity into my daily life.

So, I’m mixing patterns and trying to get back into painting and doing graphic design on the side. Thank you Palm Reader lady, for inspiring me to do something that truly does make me happy.

Bare Legs and Sunless Tanner

ootd-ginghamtoms-kneesup

The day I took these photos was the first day my legs went bare this season. In preparation, I researched sunless tanner pretty extensively and ended up going with the St Tropez Tanning Self Tan Bronzing Mousse. Instead of following the directions, I just did what felt “right” which left me streaky and panicking after the application. After a quick YouTube search, I found out that the streaks are just the guide color and will wash away after your first shower. Crisis averted! With the addition of Jergens Glow Face Daily Moisturizer I think I look at least slightly sun-kissed here! Woo!
