I got this dress way back when I first started at my job. It’s actually 6 years ago TODAY. That is, I started my job 6 years ago today. I don’t remember the exact date I bought this dress. That would be crazy. Speaking of crazy, trying to find this dress in gray is making me just that. If only I would have purchased it in every color when I found it…live and learn!

So Me

I went to Nordstrom Rack a few weeks ago to look for shape wear (I’ll tell you why in a future post) and this shirt caught my eye. Black and white, stripes, and floral? All in one? This shirt is so me. At least that’s what my coworker told me. And I agreed.

And in case you’re wondering, yes, my hair is blonder. I got balayage highlights for the second time in 3 months a couple weeks ago. At first, they were pretty subtle and I decided to go all-out this time. I always preferred dark hair and I fought my hair’s natural tendency to be light. After looking at balayage highlights on Pinterest, I finally took the plunge and I love how they turned out. Kind of lived-in, imperfect and easy to maintain.

June Gloom

Happy June, ya’ll. I have absolutely no excuse for my extended absence from blogging except for the fact that I wanted to take a break. No preamble. No big deal. Just a break.

Anyway, you know that saying, about March I believe, that says “In like a lion, out like a lamb”? That’s how June has started out here. After a May full of hot, humid days, we had crazy storms and heavy rains yesterday. The street out front was basically a river, but it paid off. It was cloudy and cool and I don’t think it got out of the 60’s today. Any break from the sweltering heat and humidity is a good thing in my book.

Plus, I got to wear my new(ish) rain booties. I traded in my clunky knee-high rain boots earlier this year and couldn’t be happier with this purchase. They’re much more versatile than my old pair. I can wear these with a skirt, with jeans, or under a pair of trousers for work. Not to mention…how cute are they??

I love that it’s finally cool enough to wear this jacket. I got it last year (or was it the year before?) on major sale and I am obsessed. Nothing makes me feel more bad-ass than wearing leather. Or, in this case faux-leather.

Stripes FTW

I absolutely love this dress. I got it from Old Navy over the summer for $10!! It incorporates my favorite color and pattern (black and white stripes) and the long sleeves mean this baby will be a perfect transitional piece. I can already see it with tights and boots and with a blazer thrown over it.

Pinkie Promise

These have turned in to my favorite pair of cropped pants. I love the color, cut and fit. I was really excited when I found them on Ebay (NWT!) and took a gamble buying them without trying them on. I’m so glad I did. This shirt is also one of my faves and I feel like I wear it all the time (See: here and here and just about every weekend).

Too Cool for School

I felt a little Parisian and a lot cool in this outfit today. This was another shirt I got from this friend. You can’t really tell in the photos, but the red stripes are a little sparkly. I wasn’t sure about it at first because I felt like it was kind of Holiday-ish, but I’m glad I took a chance on it.

Dry Clean Only

There is a Nordstrom Rack within walking distance to my work. One of my coworkers and I head over about once a month and I have been gravitating towards the maxi dresses like crazy recently. In fact, I have this exact dress in two colors. There’s just something so easy about maxi dresses. With relatively little effort–I mean, hello? You don’t even have to shave your legs!–you look spot-on. Plus, they transition really easily from day to night.

The only downside is this one is dry-clean only…Since it’s a cotton/spandex dress, that translates to a gentle wash in cold water and a hang dry. I’m such a rule-breaker.

Weekend Waves

Happy Friday, you guys! I am headed to the beach for a friend’s bachelorette party this weekend and I am so excited!

If you’re wondering about my hair, I used my Deep Hair Waver. I actually found mine at TJ Maxx several years ago, but this one from Amazon is similar. I love the waves it creates and always get compliments on my hair when I use it. The problem is it takes a lot longer than my customary roll-out-of-bed hair-do that I rock most days. Today I had some extra time, so I decided to wave it up. It’s perfect for a beach weekend, amirite?

Have a great one!

Nautical Stripes

Here is one more outfit I wore during our vacation. This was on our last day on the lake, so I wanted to wear something comfy and nautical-inspired for the drive home. During our trip, I learned that I want to move to a lake and spend every day kayaking and leaping off the side of a boat into warm, clear water. Let’s make this happen.
