It was raining when I snapped these photos…and now it’s full on thunder-storming. Thunderstorms are perhaps the only good thing about summer. I hate hot weather, but love hanging out in the A/C while thunder booms outside. Unless the power goes out. Which it’s thinking about doing.
Our deck faces west and since that’s where the weather usually comes from, we almost always get a pretty cool look at approaching storms. Excuse me while I go watch this one!

Happy June, ya’ll. I have absolutely no excuse for my extended absence from blogging except for the fact that I wanted to take a break. No preamble. No big deal. Just a break.
Anyway, you know that saying, about March I believe, that says “In like a lion, out like a lamb”? That’s how June has started out here. After a May full of hot, humid days, we had crazy storms and heavy rains yesterday. The street out front was basically a river, but it paid off. It was cloudy and cool and I don’t think it got out of the 60’s today. Any break from the sweltering heat and humidity is a good thing in my book.
Plus, I got to wear my new(ish) rain booties. I traded in my clunky knee-high rain boots earlier this year and couldn’t be happier with this purchase. They’re much more versatile than my old pair. I can wear these with a skirt, with jeans, or under a pair of trousers for work. Not to mention…how cute are they??

I got these corduroys several years ago as a Christmas gift. I liked them at the time, but had no idea how to wear them and they sat in my dresser for a long while. This outfit was inspired by this pin. Can I just say: thank goodness for Pinterest. How on earth did I get dressed before it? Anyway, these really are the most beautiful burgundy/plum color and they’re perfect for fall. I wear them to work, especially as the weather gets cooler (corduroys really keep you cozy!) and I also like wearing them them to holiday dinners with the family!

I was in Nordstrom Rack hunting for the perfect dress to wear to my friends’ wedding and I came across this one. I loved the print and when I looked at the tag and saw that it was marked down to $3.74 I knew I was buying it. Seriously less than $4 for a dress originally priced at $70! Even if I didn’t fit I probably would have bought it on principle alone. Not really, but I’m really happy it does fit!
I wore this to work and hit the polls (notice my I Voted sticker?) on the way home.
This outfit was inspired by this pin. I swapped these leggings from a friend a while ago and was so excited to wear them. I just love the combination of olive green and navy. It feels very fresh and effortless, not to mention perfect for fall!
As the the days get shorter, dark and earthy colors tend to dominate fall fashion, but you can pretty easily incorporate brightly colored clothes and accessories to keep your autumn wardrobe upbeat and eye-catching.
Don’t throw all your colored pants and skirts to the back of your closet just because summer is over. Tone them down with a leather belt in brown and a neutral colored cardigan. Toss on a pair of opaque black tights to transform brightly colored skirts into fall-ready apparel. Pull on a pair of patterned flats or lace-up booties, and your boldly colored pants and skirts become perfect to wear for fall.
Stay tuned for more ways to incorporate bright colors and summery staples into your fall wardrobe!

I took these photos on a teleworking day late last month. It was dreary and cool and while this yummy chicken noodle soup cooked away in the crock pot, I just wanted to cozy up inside with this sweater and scarf combo.

My colleague gave me these pants. I was really excited to get them because they’re very nice, but when I got them they were flared. I don’t wear a whole lot of flared pants, so I took these in at the bottom and love how they turned out.

I love that it’s finally cool enough to wear this jacket. I got it last year (or was it the year before?) on major sale and I am obsessed. Nothing makes me feel more bad-ass than wearing leather. Or, in this case faux-leather.
