BUSINESS CASUAL MUST-HAVE: The Sheath Dress

1

I got this dress way back when I first started at my job. It’s actually 6 years ago TODAY. That is, I started my job 6 years ago today. I don’t remember the exact date I bought this dress. That would be crazy. Speaking of crazy, trying to find this dress in gray is making me just that. If only I would have purchased it in every color when I found it…live and learn!

It’s a (flowery) Wrap!

1

Last week I picked out all the outfits I was going to wear this week and I inevitably changed my mind every morning while I was getting dressed. Apparently in the wee hours of the morning I forgot that I just wore a floral dress yesterday (Monday’s post) and I wore another one today. The bad news is: I am still terrible at accessorizing. The good news is: I have more than one floral dress. And this one is ridiculously comfortable and breathable.

So Simple

1

You know how Coco Chanel once said “Before you leave the house, look in the mirror and take one [accessory] off”?

I feel like accessorizing is one area of dressing which I am absolutely terrible. Since I started blogging years ago,  I often find myself looking for accessories to put on before I leave. This dress is a perfect of example of when not to do just that. Sometimes you just need to wear a pretty floral dress and let it be the center of attention.

I got this skirt around Christmastime and I just love it. It’s perfect for the holiday season and it’s fun to remix it in the warmer months. The sparkles that are now covering my office chair are totally worth all the compliments I got today. 😉

Also, I’d like to give a shout-out to my baby sister, who apparently isn’t a baby anymore. I don’t care if your ID says you’re 22, (OMFG HOW DID THAT HAPPEN?!) you’ll always be 12 to me, Kels. Love you, girl!

So Me

1

I went to Nordstrom Rack a few weeks ago to look for shape wear (I’ll tell you why in a future post) and this shirt caught my eye. Black and white, stripes, and floral? All in one? This shirt is so me. At least that’s what my coworker told me. And I agreed.

And in case you’re wondering, yes, my hair is blonder. I got balayage highlights for the second time in 3 months a couple weeks ago. At first, they were pretty subtle and I decided to go all-out this time. I always preferred dark hair and I fought my hair’s natural tendency to be light. After looking at balayage highlights on Pinterest, I finally took the plunge and I love how they turned out. Kind of lived-in, imperfect and easy to maintain.

BUSINESS CASUAL MUST-HAVE: The Chambray Button-Down

1

Remember when chambray was just called denim?

I wore all sorts of denim when I was a kid. One of my favorite outfits was comprised of a light pink floral denim skirt with a light pink denim button-down top, complete with sheer sleeves and skirt-matching cuffs and collar. Let me tell you something about that outfit: it was the height of fashion. I planned to wear it to my 9th birthday party. Sadly, it had to be postponed thanks to a blizzard. Considering the weather, it’s probably a good thing I wasn’t out wearing a denim skirt.

This shirt makes me feel really cool. You probably think denim is kind of casual, but I love that I can pair it with just about anything in my closet and feel put-together. Paired with this pretty, frilly skirt and I am definitely ready for the office. Which is why I’m adding this to my list of business-casual must-haves.

Needless to say, I am thrilled that denim chambray is back in style.

If you’ve been reading my blog for any length of time, you’ll know that I really like bow-neck blouses. I think I have 4 of them, including this one. They are just so elegant and classy and I tend to gravitate toward them when I’m shopping. I got this one as a gift and it’s definitely a fan favorite. And by “fan” I mean “myself.” Who am I kidding? They’re all my favorites.
