Complementary Colors

1

I love this outfit. I wore this to lunch with a couple colleagues last month. This is one of those outfits that turned out better than I thought it would when I came across this pin and decided to make it my own. There’s something a little bit risky about wearing complementary colors, but, when you find the perfect shades, there’s something inherently cool about it.

BUSINESS CASUAL MUST-HAVE: The Chambray Button-Down

1

Remember when chambray was just called denim?

I wore all sorts of denim when I was a kid. One of my favorite outfits was comprised of a light pink floral denim skirt with a light pink denim button-down top, complete with sheer sleeves and skirt-matching cuffs and collar. Let me tell you something about that outfit: it was the height of fashion. I planned to wear it to my 9th birthday party. Sadly, it had to be postponed thanks to a blizzard. Considering the weather, it’s probably a good thing I wasn’t out wearing a denim skirt.

This shirt makes me feel really cool. You probably think denim is kind of casual, but I love that I can pair it with just about anything in my closet and feel put-together. Paired with this pretty, frilly skirt and I am definitely ready for the office. Which is why I’m adding this to my list of business-casual must-haves.

Needless to say, I am thrilled that denim chambray is back in style.
