Fall Ready

1

I was looking at Pinterest last month for some fall outfits. It was wishful thinking, really, because the day I wore this outfit it was just about 90 degrees outside. Anyway, I came across this pin. I don’t think I’ll ever be able to own white pumps (I’d definitely wreck them the first time I wore them), but I loved the outfit and recreated my own version with a few items from my closet. That’s one of the things I really like about Pinterest: finding outfit inspiration and making it my own. How on earth did we get dressed before the internet?

Complementary Colors

1

I love this outfit. I wore this to lunch with a couple colleagues last month. This is one of those outfits that turned out better than I thought it would when I came across this pin and decided to make it my own. There’s something a little bit risky about wearing complementary colors, but, when you find the perfect shades, there’s something inherently cool about it.

Zig and Zag

1

I made this skirt back when I was really into DIY-ing skirts. This is the first maxi I’ve ever made and it’s very comfy and breezy. I wore this to work a few weeks ago. It’s a little casual for work, but I can barely function when it’s really hot outside, so the fact that I got dressed at all is kind of a miracle.

Accessorized

1

Remember a few weeks ago when I said I am terrible at accessorizing? Well, I went ahead and bought a shirt that was pre-accessorized. So, there! HA! This is my kind of top. It’s comfy, breezy, and requires minimal effort to look put-together.

When I picked this up in store, I didn’t realize the back looked like this, but as soon as I tried it on and could see the top bit of my tattoo showing it pretty much sealed the deal that I had to own it.

A Swing and A Miss

1

This was one of those outfits that just didn’t look exactly as I had envisioned it when it came time to take photos. You see, I am very, very drawn toward royal blue. I had a royal blue skirt previously, but I decided it was a little too short for work and the odds of me wearing it outside of work were pretty slim, so after hunting for a bit, I bought this one. I actually like the shirt and belt combo, but that tell-tale fold across the front of my hips proves the skirt just doesn’t fit like it should. Oh, well! Looks like the hunt continues.

Pretty and Witty and Bright

1

There is something about a hot coral dress that can make even the gloomiest day seem brighter. Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for a gloomy day once in a while. In fact, as I type this, it’s cool and breezy and very cloudy here in the DMV; it’s a welcome change from the unrelenting heat of last week.

I wore this to work, but the more I look at this dress, the more I feel like it would be awesome to wear to a summer wedding. In fact, I almost wore this to one we went to last month, but I opted for a green wrap dress instead.

Subtle Dots

1

I, like many people, love polka-dots. I have a handful of polka-dotted items in my closet and this blouse is one of my favorites. This blouse is a great way to do polka-dots if you’re not firmly on board with them (yet!). The gray-on-white make them subtle enough to be polka-dots without being hellooo polka-dots.

BUSINESS CASUAL MUST-HAVE: The Sheath Dress

1

I got this dress way back when I first started at my job. It’s actually 6 years ago TODAY. That is, I started my job 6 years ago today. I don’t remember the exact date I bought this dress. That would be crazy. Speaking of crazy, trying to find this dress in gray is making me just that. If only I would have purchased it in every color when I found it…live and learn!

It’s a (flowery) Wrap!

1

Last week I picked out all the outfits I was going to wear this week and I inevitably changed my mind every morning while I was getting dressed. Apparently in the wee hours of the morning I forgot that I just wore a floral dress yesterday (Monday’s post) and I wore another one today. The bad news is: I am still terrible at accessorizing. The good news is: I have more than one floral dress. And this one is ridiculously comfortable and breathable.

So Simple

1

You know how Coco Chanel once said “Before you leave the house, look in the mirror and take one [accessory] off”?

I feel like accessorizing is one area of dressing which I am absolutely terrible. Since I started blogging years ago,  I often find myself looking for accessories to put on before I leave. This dress is a perfect of example of when not to do just that. Sometimes you just need to wear a pretty floral dress and let it be the center of attention.
